Primal Ranch Dip

I was so excited today when I put out a veggie platter with ranch dip out and my kids totally dug in! They ate all the veggies. I think a huge part of that success was the yummy homemade ranch dip.

I used a recipe I found at The Antihousewife but took out the buttermilk and changed the spices a little.  Here's my recipe:

  • 1/2 cup dried parsley
  • 3 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoons onion power
  • 1 tablespoons dried dill
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Mayonnaise

First we are going to make a ranch mix that you can keep in the cupboard to make mixing up a bowl of ranch fast and easy.

Place all of the spices into a food processor. Pulse until you have nice small pieces but not powder. Now you have your ranch mix!

To make dip or dressing:  mix 1 - 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise with 1 tablespoon spice mix.

  4. I have made ranch dressing as above, but I used 1/2 mayonaise and 1/2 silken tofu. For those who use soy, the tofu stretches the mayo. A splash of lemon juice is good.

  5. Thanks for the comment Warthog, although I personally don't recommend soy. Here's a good article on the subject: http://www.foodrenegade.com/dangers-of-soy/

  6. you could use 1/2 mayo and 1/2 cauliflower mash to cut back on the mayo a bit:)
